CAS PGA 2023

Global Perspectives on Public Governance: Insights from the CAS in Public Governance and Administration (CAS PGA) In-Person Study Block at ETH Zurich

Between August 24 and September 8, 2023, a 16-day study block was hosted by the ETH Swiss School of Public Governance as part of the CAS PGA program, attracting participants from 15 countries and offering insights into global governance.

As the new semester for our CAS in Public Governance and Administration (CAS PGA) gets underway, we would like to highlight our 16-day in-person study block at ETH Zurich.

The CAS PGA is an interdisciplinary continuing education course designed to bring together professionals from around the globe for a transformative learning experience. It aims to teach our students how to handle various governance challenges from multidisciplinary perspectives. This year, we were pleased to welcome 19 participants from 15 different countries. While many have a public sector leadership background, this year’s student group also includes individuals from private businesses, academia, and international institutions.

During the intensive on-site study stay in Zurich, our participants were taught by top lecturers, mainly from the ETH Zurich but also from other Swiss universities. In addition, lecturers from the Swiss federal administration, NGOs, international organizations, and the private sector provided insights from a practitioner's perspective. Our curriculum focused on three main areas: Contemporary Governance, Public Management, and Policy Domains.

Besides these regular sessions, we were honored to host guest talks from notable persons, such as Ambassador Thomas Gürber, Head of the UN Division of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), Ambassador Patricia Danzi, Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and Michel M. Liès, Chairman of the Zurich Insurance Group.
Yet, the course is not over, and there's still work ahead for our students! They are now writing their theses, applying what they learned in class to guide their research.
